چکیده

High order modulation nonlinear effects has been appointed as the main limitation in coherent optical fiber transmission. Digital back-propagation algorithms are one of the current studied methods to cope with such impairment and extend the systems maximum reach. In this article, we analyzed the digital back-propagation performance in a 224 Gb/s dual polarization 16QAM optical coherent system. It was observed a 35% increase in maximum reached distance and an OSNR gain of 2.6 dB. In order to reduce the huge required computational complexity, an modified back-propagation algorithm is analyzed.

Modeling of nonlinearity-compensated optical communication systems considering second-order signal-noise interactions.

An analytical model considering modulation-dependent nonlinear effects and second-order interactions between signal and optical amplifier noise is presented for Nyquist-spaced wavelength-division-multiplexing optical communication systems. System performance of dual-polarization modulation formats, such as DP-QPSK, DP-16QAM, and DP-64QAM, is investigated using both the analytical model and nume...

Nonlinear Effects Compensation in Optical Coherent PDM-QPSK Systems

Nonlinear effects has been appointed as the main limitation in coherent optical fiber transmission. Digital BackPropagation algorithms and Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation are two of the current studied methods to cope with such impairment and extend the systems maximum reach. In this article, we analyzed both methods in a 112 Gb/s Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shifting Keying (DP-QP...

uncompensated link with backward-pumped distributed Raman amplification

We present experimental and numerical investigations of Kerr nonlinearity compensation in a 400-km standard single-mode fiber link with distributed Raman amplification with backward pumping. A dual-pump polarization-independent fiber-based optical parametric amplifier is used for mid-link spectral inversion of 5 × 28-GBd polarization-multiplexed 16QAM signals. Signal quality factor (Q-factor) i...

Volterra-based Nonlinear Compensation in 400 Gb/s WDM Multiband Coherent Optical OFDM Systems

We apply a 3 rd -order inverse Volterra series nonlinear equalizer to a 400 Gb/s WDM multiband PM-16QAM OFDM signal. IVSTF-NLE provides a 0.6 dB Q-factor improvement and 1 dB nonlinear threshold increase compared to linear equalization. Unrepeatered 256 Gb/s PM-16QAM transmission over up to 304 km with simple system configurations.

We study unrepeatered transmission of 40x256 Gb/s systems with polarization-multiplexed 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (PM-16QAM) channels using simple coherent optical system configurations. Three systems are investigated with either a homogeneous fiber span, or simple two-segment hybrid fiber designs. Each system relies primarily on ultra-low loss, very large effective area fiber, while m...
